Through its volunteer program, St. Anne Home has warmly welcomed local people from all walks of life with different challenges to its facility, offering them a chance to perform tasks that dovetail with their unique skills, abilities, and interests. It is an invitation that has made a significant impact in many lives.
For its extraordinary inclusion efforts, St. Anne Home was recognized by the Westmoreland County Community Support Program with a 2016 Ripple Effects Award this past May. The CSP program seeks to improve opportunities for individuals with serious mental health problems by helping participants maintain a sense of identity, dignity, and self-esteem.
Upon receiving the award, St. Anne Home Director of Activities Mary Melko stated, “It is my pleasure to work with such a great group of volunteers. They try very hard to achieve the goals set with their peer support person. I have seen them grow tremendously through their volunteering.”
